Red Flag fire warnings tonight into Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag fire watch for the western slope of the Sierra beginning tonight and lasting through the weekend.

Strong northerly winds that helped push last weekend’s four blazes in North San Juan will come into tonight and start to diminish Saturday afternoon, with gusts up to 35 mph. The warning will stay in effect Sunday because of the unusually dry conditions in the area.

Surface pressure building over Oregon will force the winds down the slope to produce the fire watch conditions.
