Reassured about peppers

Congratulations to SPD, Raley’s, Grocery Outlet, BriarPatch Co-op and California Organics for not overreacting to the news on jalapeño peppers.

We have not been given the whole story. The tomato contamination with salmonella was frightening enough and now jalapeño peppers? Something didn’t sound right to me so I decided to do the research. I found several references to the fact that the fresh peppers from the farm in Mexico may not have been contaminated and that the salmonella appears to have come from an “item” containing tomatoes, cilantro and jalapeño peppers.

Of course! This is the only way an outbreak like this could have happened. If people wash their vegetables well and if they cook them that is even better. The risk of salmonella is virtually zero. So, we are not being told which brand name is suspect because that could destroy the reputation of this major food manufacturer and have dire economic consequences for them. Since the FDA gets much of their funding from food manufacturers and drug companies, it might also be their demise.
