Re: Sex offender article, Friday, May 23

As a retired police officer from Pennsylvania, I share the frustration of Nevada County law enforcement agencies.

We now have a man walking around free whose bail was set at $10,000 when a bail of $1 million would have been justified.

John Sobonya, a sex offender with a record a mile long, is free to possibly kidnap and molest again.

Apparently the Judge and District Attorney didn’t wish to interfere with that.

He has a record of 33 arrests and 16 felony convictions, and he’s only 58 years old.

It would appear that he is a prime subject for the three strike law, times five, and life in prison as a habitual criminal.

I strongly recommend that a committee to oversee our judicial system be appointed by our Nevada County Supervisors. Ideally composed of retired police officers.
