Re: McCain’s Energy Plan

Our nation’s future security and prosperity depend on the next president making the hard choices that will break our nation’s strategic dependence on foreign sources of energy.

John McCain has made the necessary choices in his proposed Lexington Project. They include expanding domestic oil exploration, which would reduce our trade deficit, challenging our automakers to develop a zero-carbon emission car offering a consumer who purchases such a car a substation tax credit, and continue to effectively enforce existing CAFÉ standards.

In an effort to improve battery technology, McCain would propose a $300 million incentive to develop plug-in and fully electric automobiles. The senator also supports flex-fuel vehicles and believes they should play a greater role in our transportation sector.

Further, the senator believes in investing in clean, alternative sources of energy. If elected, he would support the U.S. in becoming a leader in the new international green economy, commit financial incentives for advancing clean coal technologies, support the construction of 45 new nuclear power plants, and promote energy efficiency in the federal government. He would encourage the market to create alternative, low-carbon fuels such as wind, hydro- and solar power. If all the elements of this project were implemented we would bid good-bye to the Middle East and all its problems, and gain a significant reduction in our basic costs of food, fuel, and transportation with a major improvement of our environment.
