Rainy weather to persist today, chain controls at high elevations

Rainy weather is expected to continue in Western Nevada County for the rest of the morning before tapering off around lunchtime today, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected at elevations above 5,000 feet and the NWS is predicting up to five fresh inches in the Truckee area by this afternoon.

CalTrans has enacted chain controls along Interstate 80 at Emigrant Gap to the state line with Nevada and on Highway 20 near the intersection with 80. Motorists are advised to take any mountain travel today very slowly.

A second system is expected to move into the area late Thursday night and into Friday. According to the NWS the storm could bring heavy rain and snow to the area.
