Rain likely tonight, Sunday

That slight chance for rain this weekend has been changed to likely for tonight and Sunday, with a cloudy break on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, weekend recreationists in the Sierra should be prepared for showers, thunderstorms and plunging temperatures.

Sierra snowpack continues as well, making streams cold and extremely dangerous, the weather service said. Every spring, strong currents and hypothermia cause deaths in Northern California, so boaters, swimmers, campers and hikers are urged to use extreme caution around streams.

Showers and thunderstorms could arrive in western Nevada County as early as this afternoon, with the highs in the mid-70s. Thunderstorms are predicted for tonight with lows in the high 40s.

Only a slight chance of rain exists for Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s. Temperatures will dip to the low 40s Saturday night.

The showers and thunderstorms are likely again on Sunday, with temperatures dipping into the low 60s during the day and the mid-30s at night.

Partly cloudy conditions are predicted for Monday through Wednesday, with high temperatures staying in the mid 60s to low 70s. Lows will remain in the high 30s to low 40s.

Sunny skies are predicted to return next Thursday and bring temperatures back to seasonal highs in the 70s, with lows in the mid-40s.
