Rain and snow to continue through today in Sierra

Storms are expected to linger over the Sierra this afternoon, although the strongest winds and rains have passed.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento said this morning’s pounding rains could cause minor street flooding in low spots and intersections. The storm should also bring another foot to three feet of snow to the high Sierra and wind gusts up to 45 mph.

The California Highway Patrol has chain requirements in effect on I-80 from Kingvale to the Donner Lake exit. There are no reported chain controls on Highway 20 leading to I-80, but there are on Highway 49 in Sierra County from Bassetts to Sattley over the Yuba Pass.
