Rachel S. Wampler died May 25 at her home in Smartville. She was 67.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Monday, June 2, at Penn Valley Community Church. Tom Gregoire will officiate. Burial will take place at Sierra Memorial Lawn in Nevada City.

Mrs. Wampler was born June 28, 1940, in Alabama to T.R. and Jewel Smith (Dupree). She married Galen Wampler on June 15, 1957, in Hayward.

Mrs. Wampler was a member of Penn Valley Community Church. She loved her family and enjoyed leading Bible studies, roaming the beach, and watching baseball. She was an avid San Diego Padres fan.

Mrs. Wampler is survived by her husband, Galen Wampler of Smartville; daughter and her partner, Hope Ammon and Andy Jorgensen of Pleasanton; daughters and sons-in-law Kristi and Brett Malech and Kathy and Eric West, all of Smartville; grandchildren Esther, Daniel and Michael Ammon, Becca, Zach and Allie Malech, and Reanne, Carah and Dawnicah West; mother, Jewel Smith of Yuba City; brothers Rich, Herb and Steve Smith, and sister, Esther Stratton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Richard Smith.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
