Put on your dancing shoes for band performance

In addition to packing a picnic meal for Sunday’s last Pioneer Park Picnic Pops concert of the season, audience members should wear comfortable shoes for dancing.

With a theme of “Kick off your Sunday Shoes!” expect the Nevada County Concert Band to play popular dance music, including the title song from the movie “Footloose” and “Hand Jive” from the movie “Grease.”

Other genres include ballet music in a medley featuring “Scherherazade,” “Polovetsia Dance,” “Swan Lake” and “Russian Sailor’s Dance;” Broadway/movie tunes such as “New York, New York,” “A Chorus Line” and “My Fair Lady;” and big band selections such as “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

In addition, accordionist Patsy Hannebrink will accompany the band on “Polka Pops.”

Although admission is free to the 5 p.m. concert, donations will be accepted for the nonprofit all-ages volunteer band, which appears at several community events including the Nevada County Fair and the Fourth of July and Constitution Day parades.

Pioneer Park’s band shell is off of Nimrod Street in Nevada City.
