Public health insurance option: ‘WHY DON’T WE HAVE THAT?’

It took three explanations for my staunchly conservative, anti-health care reform aunt to understand what a public option is. When I finished, her response was, “That’s a good idea. Why don’t we have that?” My response? I have no idea. I’m just grateful I have Medicare and can’t be forced to buy insurance from folks who make their money off of people being sick, spending as little as possible to help them.
