NU soccer opens SFL with win

The Nevada Union boys soccer team opened Sierra Foothill League play with a 1-0 victory over Rocklin.

Nevada Union striker Ben Siemers grabbed the only goal of the game in the fourth minute.

The Miners hit the pitch again Tuesday when they face Granite Bay.

Junior High Girls Basketball

Magnolia 35,

Pleasant Valley 32

The Magnolia eighth-grade girls basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a hard-fought win over the visiting Pleasant Valley Vikings.

Ashlee Albee led all scorers with 16 points. Alyssa Pulkinghorn was a catalyst in the second and third quarter, scoring six points. Summer Brown contributed big on the boards and scored five points. Defensive standouts late in the game were Kailee Guerra, Kaity Nat and Vivian Hamilton.

The Rattlers will open up second half play against Seven Hills Tuesday.

Magnolia 36,

Forest Lake Christian 28

Earlier in the week Magnolia topped Forest Lake Christian behind 14 points from Albee. Brown added 12 in the win.
