Praise for paper

With all of the “Union-basing” going on in our local Internet blogs, I feel compelled to express my appreciation and support of the newspaper. It seems like not a day goes by without some tongue-in-cheek sarcasm being directed at the paper.

Please continue focusing on local news. As for myself, if I want news from another area, I’ll pick up their paper, or head to the Internet. The complaints over coverage of the Auburn fire were unwarranted in my view. Auburn is not in Nevada County, and besides, those who were concerned were already checking the Internet and listening in on the scanners.

The Union is not perfect. But I believe that it surpasses papers in neighboring counties because of its local focus and thought-provoking editorial views. This is true whether I agree with the writer or not.

Thank you everyone, management, reporters, printers … and a big thanks to those carriers who are up early in all weather conditions (thanks, Eileen!) to deliver the news every day.

And to the critics … no, The Union did not pay me for this letter.
