‘Power of Nightmares’ shows at Sierra College

The Sierra College Nevada County Campus is presenting the BBC film series, “The Power of Nightmares,” on two nights.

“Baby it’s Cold Outside” and “The Phantom Victory” will be shown tonight and “Shadows in the Cave” March 9. Both showings are 6:30-8:30 p.m. at 250 Sierra College Drive, Grass Valley, in the downstairs library. A discussion follows.

Written and narrated by Adam Curtis, “The Power of Nightmares” is a series of three one-hour documentaries that question whether the threat of terrorism to the West is a politically driven fantasy and if al-Qaida really is an organized network. It was first screened in the fall of 2004.

Curtis writes, “In an age when all the grand ideas have lost credibility, fear of a phantom enemy is all the politicians have to maintain their power.”

Admission is free, but there is a $1 parking fee. Contact Campus Life Coordinator Carol Cox at 274-5291 for more information.
