Power back on in downtown Grass Valley

Grass Valley’s Pacific Gas and Electric company restored power to downtown Grass Valley around 10:30 a.m. A malfunction in a underground cable right in front of P&GE’s office at 127 East Main Street knocked out power at 9:35 am.

The outage affected East Main Street from South Auburn Street to Idaho-Maryland Road and up the hill to the north into the residential neighborhood.

Hilltop Commons Seniors Residence on Eureka St. called to report a 97-year-old resident trapped in an elevator. Elton Myers – a former PG&E employee – was trapped when the power went off.

“I wasn’t scared,” he said, citing his experience with the power company. He was rescued by Grass Valley firefighters and an elevator company crew that was in the area.

Customers can call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 with problems or questions.
