Pound for pound: Food ministry receives 800-pound Smart Chicken donation (PHOTO GALLERY/VIDEO)
If you’ve purchased chicken at one of Nevada County’s two SPD Markets over the past year, chances are you’ve helped a needy family with food through collaboration between Interfaith Food Ministry and SPD Markets’ Smart Giving program, made available through Smart Chicken.
The program, now entering its sixth year of implementation at Interfaith Food Ministry, allows for one pound of chicken donated for each pound purchased.
“It’s all about giving back to the community,” said SPD Markets Assistant Manager Justin Painter.
On Wednesday morning, workers and volunteers from Interfaith Food Ministry helped to unload the pallet of donated chicken and store it away in the freezer for later distribution.
