The Union will be post live results from Tuesday’s election at The Union NOW at TheUnion.com.

First results will appear soon after polls close Tuesday.

More than 19,000 Nevada County voters have returned their mail-in ballots for the state Assembly District 1 race.

Five candidates are running for the seat vacated by Brian Dahle, who won an election in June for the state Senate: Democrat Elizabeth Betancourt and Republicans Megan Dahle, Patrick Henry Jones, Lane Rickard, and Joe Turner.

Two Nevada County vote centers are now open every day through Tuesday, election day, and will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Voters can drop off their vote-by-mail ballot at any vote center, receive a replacement ballot or register to vote. The elections office in the Eric Rood Administrative Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City; and Truckee Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road, are open every day. There also will be a one-day vote center open election day at Gold Miners Inn conference room A.

As of Friday, 19,214 Nevada County voters had cast ballots in the special election, a little over 28% of registered voters. The District 1 state Assembly seat is composed of part or all of nine counties, including Nevada County.

The Gold Miners Inn, 121 Bank St., Grass Valley, will open as a vote center on election day only.

All Nevada County voters should have received a ballot in the mail.

“There is still time to mail your vote-by-mail ballot,” said Clerk-Recorder Assistant Ali O’Brien. “Voters wishing to mail their ballot through the post office need to be sure that their ballot is postmarked by election day.”

O’Brien said ballots that are mailed and have a post mark date of Aug. 27 have three days after the election to arrive to the Elections Office. Official vote-by-mail drop boxes located throughout Nevada County are open until 8 p.m. on election day.

There are a handful of ballot drop-off spots, all of which are open:

The parking lot of the Eric Rood Administrative Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City, open 24 hours daily.

The Gold Miners Inn, 121 Bank St., Grass Valley, open 24 hours daily.
