Police identify man killed in Ridge pot patch shootout

Police have identified the Yuba County man killed in Saturday night’s pot patch shootout in North San Juan as John Scott Shelton, 31, of Linda, Ca.

North San Juan resident Dusty Beck, 42, shot Shelton at close range with a shotgun as Shelton and at least one other person entered his home on the 11000 block of Tyler Foote Road attempting to steal his marijuana, sheriff’s investigators said.

Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene. Beck is recovering from two gunshot wounds to his abdomen and one shot to his leg at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Beck was in serious condition Tuesday, hospital spokeswoman Robin Montgomery said.
