Poetry, recycled fashions on tap for next week
Roo Cantada, Myra Traugot and Dennis Fritzinger will be featured at the next Nevada County Poetry Series’ reading Oct. 15 in Grass Valley.
Cantada, who calls herself an “expression activist,” is a co-founder and past president of the Nevada County Poetry Series. She also produces the annual music and sustainability festival, “Ridgestock,” at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center and facilitates open-mikes there and through community radio station KVMR’s on-air “Radio Poets Society.” Her writings are on contemporary global issues.
Fritzinger is a co-founder of the Warrior Poets Society, poetry editor of the Earth First! Journal and is a social, political and environmental activist. His work appears in numerous magazines and journals including “Demilitarized Zones: Veterans After Vietnam,” “City Lights Anthology,” “Earth First! and Wild Earth,” “The Earth First! Songbook” and “Earth First! Campfire Poems.”
Traugot, a Nevada County mother of five, was raised in a military family and lived in Japan, Germany, the Eastern Seaboard and the Deep South. She is a defender of civil rights, a peace advocate and supports sustainable living and the environment.
An open mike will follow the featured readings.
Admission is $7 general, $5 seniors and students, and $1 for anyone under 18. Refreshments are included.
The reading will be at the Off Center Stage on Richardson Street, directly in back of the Center for the Arts at 314 W. Main St.
