Poet Snyder up for award

Local poet Gary Snyder has been nominated for a 2005 Northern California Book Award in poetry for his book, “Danger on Peaks” (Shoemaker & Hoard, 2004).

The awards ceremony takes place Wednesday at the San Francisco Library’s Main Branch, 100 Larkin St. This is the 24th year the awards have been conferred. Seven categories are recognized, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s literature, translation, special award, and the Fred Cody Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Snyder won a Pulitzer Prize in poetry in 1975 for his book, “Turtle Island.”
