Pianists cross the globe to attend local institute

Bringing together some of the most outstanding young pianists in the world with a faculty of internationally acclaimed master teachers and concert pianists, Gold Country Piano Institute puts on a 10-day master course in interpretation that also includes the public. People are invited to audit daily lessons free of charge, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 10, through Friday, June 15; and Sunday, June 17, through Thursday, June 21, at Miners Foundry in Nevada City. The students work to develop new pieces for performances during the course.

In addition, the public is invited to three concerts that are performed by master teachers who are faculty members for the course. The newest faculty member is internationally renowned master teacher John Perry, professor of piano at USC.

The students come from Canada, Japan, Poland, Brazil and the U.S. to attend. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to instruction in classical piano for students and professional performers.

According to Andrea Fox, GCPI development director, “We are proud that students who have participated in the intensive course have been admitted to such prestigious music schools as Juilliard, Peabody, Oberlin, Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Southern California, as well as receiving numerous awards in regional, national and international competitions.”
