Phillip McCully

A celebration of life for Phillip George McCully of Penn Valley will be conducted from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Rough and Ready Grange Hall. Everyone is encouraged to bring their musical instruments for a jam session in Mr. McCully’s honor. Private graveside services will be conducted at the Penn Valley Cemetery.

Mr. McCully died Thursday, Feb. 17, in Penn Valley. He was 65.

He was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Grass Valley, to James Ira and Zina (Hindman) McCully. He graduated from Grass Valley High School. He married Bonita on May 21, 1983, in Cool. He was a self-employed trucker. He was an accomplished guitar player for 40 years. He enjoyed the study of history, geography and painting.



He is survived by his wife, Bonita G. McCully of Penn Valley; sons James A. McCully of Roseville, Mike McCully of Grass Valley, and Ira W. McCully of Roseville; step-daughter, Serena R. Dixon of Penn Valley; step-son, James R. Downing of Prairie City, Ore.; sisters Mona Pugh of Chugiak, Alaska, and Birdie Lane of Sacramento; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zina and Jim.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McCully Family Trust Fund at any Placer Sierra Bank.




Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
