Pharis a finalist at FFA nationals

Kevin Paul Pharis of Grass Valley was selected as a national finalist for the National FFA Proficiency Award in Diversified Horticulture-Placement.

Pharis was one of only four students competing for the award at the 75th National FFA Convention from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 in Louisville, Ky.

The award recognizes outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business, working at an existing company or through some other kind of hands-on career experience.

Pharis, a member of the Grass Valley-Nevada Union FFA chapter, became eligible for the national award after winning the California state FFA competition.

Each finalist receives a plaque and $250. The winner of the national award receives another $250.
