Penn Valley fire controlled

Dave Moller
Senior Staff Writer

Firefighters attacked and controlled a wildfire in Penn Valley that was first reported about 1:45 p.m. today, according to Calfire.

The Spenceville Fire burned in about one acre of oak woodlands near the corner of Spenceville Road and Penn Valley Drive.

Six engines, two air tankers, one helicopter and hand crews from Calfire are on the scene along with firefighters from the Penn Valley and Rough and Ready fire districts.

An eyewitness said the blaze near Ready Springs Elementary School was put out partially by area neighbors and school personnel who used shovels and fire extinguishers.
