Paul Larsen

Graveside services for Paul Hugh Larsen of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mr. Larsen died Saturday, Feb. 21, in Grass Valley. He was 89.

He was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Stockton to Lars and Johanne Marie Larsen. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II. He married Helen Elizabeth Pettypool July 18, 1939. He worked for Pan American World Airways for 34 years. He was a member of the Salvation Army, where he played in the band and met his wife, Helen. He was also a member of Sierra Presbyterian Church and was active on the board at Ponderosa Pines Mobile Home Park while they resided there. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, golf and was an all-around handyman.

He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Larsen of Grass Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Nannette Larsen of Grass Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Dick and Linda Johnson of Rockford, Ill.; grandchildren Kristine, Kathie, Rich, Dave and Dan; and great-grandchildren AnnaBella and Alessandra. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harry Larsen in 1969 and Lester Larsen in 1995.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s research or Guidelines Ministry.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
