Open Studios Art Tour covers two weekends

For the next two Saturdays and Sundays, 53 area art studios will be open to the public during the annual Western Nevada County Open Studios Art Tour. Several disciplines will be represented, including painting, photography, fine woodworking, fiber, glass, ceramics and sculpture.

Featuring 77 area artists at work, the tour kicks off tonight with a preview reception at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley.

Participating artists will be at the reception to answer questions; a work from each artist will be displayed at the center through Oct. 15. Tonight’s reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 314 W. Main St. in Grass Valley includes live music and refreshments.

All studios will be open this Saturday and Sunday. Forty-six studios will be open the next weekend (Oct. 16-17). Tour hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all four days. Open Studios Tour brochures, including maps, are at the Center for the Arts, Odyssey Books, Nevada City Picture Framing, J.J. Jackson’s and Nevada City Winery.

The Tour’s Web site, http://www.openstudios tour.org, also contains samples of artists’ works, studio directions and maps.
