Open House to reunite

Open House, reuniting after an 11-year hiatus, is an acoustic world music phenomenon. Drawing strength from the diversity of its musicians, the group takes full advantage of its varied instrumentation, deftly genre-jumping through an assortment of Celtic, American traditional and eastern European settings.

Legendary Irish fiddler Kevin Burke (Bothy Band) slips easily amongst jigs, reels, bourrees and polkas, while Mark Graham’s clarinet adds a decidedly old world quality to the ensemble. Citternist Paul Kotapish (Wake the Dead, Hillbillies from Mars) contributes distinctive original instrumentals, and unique rhythms are provided by Sandy Silva’s driving percussive dance. Finally, the group’s sophisticated repertoire is hilariously complemented by the infectious, tongue-in-cheek songwriting of Mark Graham.

“I met Kevin Burke in 1979 when he was with the legendary Bothy Ban – the band that virtually created modern Irish music as we know it today,” said presenter Paul Emery. “Open House is a unique group and we are so fortunate to have them perform locally on this very short reunion tour. Mark Graham is a KVMR favorite and his song ‘I Have Seen Your Aura and It’s Ugly’ is the ultimate new age love song. This band is fun and unpredictable.”

The Nevada Theatre has limited seating so advance tickets may be a good idea.
