Open House and open studios at The Center

The Center for the Arts will celebrate its banner year in 2010 at an Open House and Member Appreciation.

Members and non-members alike are invited to this free event which showcases the best of what The Center has to offer.

In the lobby the Open Studios Art Tour will kick off its annual event with a gala preview reception. On the Center Stage, get a sneak peak at upcoming musical productions by Sierra Sirens, Saul Rayo and hula dancers and then swing by the Off Center Stage in back to experience the latest literary works of the Nevada County Poetry Series.

The Center works hard to bring quality performances to our community and to present a rich array of culturally diverse performing arts programming for Nevada County in order to educate, enlighten, enhance and entertain citizens and patrons of all ages.

In addition The Center is able to use the platform of entertainment to help raise funds and awareness for other nonprofits in the community such as Friends of the Library, Nevada Union High School drama and music departments, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, South Yuba River Citizens League, KVMR radio and Nevada County Land Trust.

The Center has been recognized for leadership in the arts, most recently with a nomination by the Arts and Business Council of Sacramento for Arts Management leadership for organizations with an annual budget of $250,000 or more.

Although The Center has been successful this year in building a positive reputation in our community and attracting patrons to our area, providing a broad array of programming does not come without risk. Ticket sales account for up to 60 percent of their revenue, with the remainder coming from support through memberships, corporate sponsorships and grants.

As a challenging economic environment continues to linger, The Center has found support from memberships and the community more important than ever to provide a cushion to allow them to continue to bring a diversity of programming and manage a 21,000-square-foot venue in downtown Grass Valley.

The Center invites members and the public to see first-hand why The Center is necessary to this community and what their support accomplishes at the open house.
