Flamencedelic might not be found in Webster’s or any other dictionary, but it certainly describes the five-year-old ensemble, Alma Melodiosa.

Defining the term coined by band members, guitarist Mark Mansfield explained that the dance songs blend old world music with modern beats and entrancing vocals.

Alma Melodiosa combines flamenco, jazz, world beat and reggae in its originals. Lyrics are in English and Spanish.

Ensemble members are from the United States, Spain and Canada.

Performing in the area once before – about 18 months ago in Nevada City -Alma Melodiosa returns Saturday, this time for an all-ages show. The Grass Valley show is in support of the ensemble’s second CD, “Enchantment,” released last week.

The song “Kayenta” on the debut CD, “Melodious Souls,” was ranked No. 4 on the BeSonic International Internet Radio world music charts in August 2001.

Playing regularly at clubs and festivals in the western states, the ensemble based in Angels Camp embarks on its first East Coast tour at the end of January.
