Objects in the Mirror bring back Steely Dan tribute

Local band Objects in the Mirror was built to avoid the norm, but even a band with that kind of direction needs the occasional challenge.

That challenge for the jazz-rock fusion group came in the form of the difficult-to-play music of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, better known as Steely Dan.

So last fall, as a lark, the group added a horn section and backup singers for what they thought would be a one-time gig entitled “Thousands of Fingers: A Tribute to Steely Dan.”

The result was “a standing room only, standing ovation crowd,” according to singer/bassist Pat Jacobsen.

“We had no intention of doing this again,” he said, but they will be back by popular demand with the show at 8 p.m. Saturday night at The Center for the Arts.

“The idea is that we can step out of character and do something really fun for the locals and we want to do things in the future with singers and a horn section anyway,” Jacobsen said.

Expect 23 songs over two sets from Steely Dan’s vast repertoire of the past 30 years.

Any Major Dude or Babylon Sister will be charged $18 at the door, with advance tickets available at Love Shack Records, Yabobo, BriarPatch and The Book Seller or by calling 800-594-8499.

The Center for the Arts is at 314 W. Main St. in Grass Valley.
