Obituary: William Avery

William Richmond Avery died Monday, Feb. 4, in Grass Valley.

A private burial will be held.



Mr. Avery was born on Jan. 19, 1915, in Coldwater, Kan. He was a resident of Rough and Ready for 42 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II.




He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Lofgren Avery, of Rough and Ready; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and John Gregor of Rough and Ready; daughter Loretto Burns of Rough and Ready; son, William Avery of Rough and Ready; sister, Martha Pennington of Grass Valley; grandchildren Marc Flournoy, Regina Gregor Smoot, Rosemary Gregor Hopfner, Joseph Burns, Amy Gregor, Sarah Gregor Swanton, Rachel Burns Smith, Kenneth Avery and Lauren Avery; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
