Obituary: Velma Funk

Velma Funk, 95, of Grass Valley died Sunday, Jan. 13, in Grass Valley.

At her request, no services are planned.



Mrs. Funk was born June 11, 1906, in Joplin, Mo., to John R. and Bertha V. Deardorff. She married Guy G. Funk on Oct. 23, 1928, in Missouri. She was a longtime resident of Joplin and San Francisco.




She was a pianist, organist and composer. She enjoyed gardening and was very involved in the Methodist church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Becky Funk of Rancho Mirage; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Hal Jonsson of Penn Valley; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Guy, in 1986.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills or Grass Valley Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Grass Valley.
