Obituary: Ray Smart

Ray Francis Smart, 70, of Camptonville died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at University of California at Davis Medical Center.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.



Mr. Smart was born on Oct. 6, 1931, in Nevada City to Mosco and Viola (Paxton) Smart. He was one of three children.




He was raised and attended schools in Nevada City. Mr. Smart graduated from Nevada City High School in 1949. He worked in the family business, Nevada City Bottling Works, delivering soda pop and beer. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1952 in the South Pacific. He enjoyed fishing locally, working on automobiles and gardening.

Mr. Smart is survived by his brother, Lee Smart of Hereford, Ariz.; aunts Betty Smart of Nevada City and Dorothy Paxton of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Twyla Furano; and by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
