Obituary: Marvin Odom

Services for Marvin Woodrow Odom of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Burial will be at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mr. Odom died Monday, Jan. 21, in Auburn. He was 72.

He was born Jan. 23, 1929, in Brighton, Ala., to Howard and Gladys Odom. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1952. He graduated from Murietta-Johnson School in Fairhope, Ala., and from California State University at Sacramento with a BA in education in 1969. He obtained an administration credential from CSUS in 1970. He married Wanda Ledbetter in 1962 in Reno.

He was superintendent of Union Hills School District for 15 years and was also the principal at Eureka School in Roseville for eight years. He was a member of the Madison Lodge No. 23 F&AM in Grass Valley. He was an avid pilot and football fan. He enjoyed flying, traveling and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Grass Valley; sons Bill Odom of Penn Valley, Dan McMullen of Clear Lake, Tom Odom of Auburn, Mike McMullen of Sacramento and Doug Odom of Rocklin; daughters Kathryn Calfee of Davis and Linda Bronson of Rio Linda; sister Johnnie Belle Wesson of Amedo, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and nephew Wilburn Odom Jr. of Springvale, Ala.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that a tree be planted in his memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
