Obituary: Louise Crone

Louise Van der Wende Proul Crone, 56, died Friday, Jan. 11.

She was raised in Grass Valley and graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1963, earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from California State University at Sacramento in 1967, and continued her studies there to earn her teaching credentials a year later. She earned a master’s degree in special education from the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, in 1984.

She lived and taught in many countries throughout her lifetime. Most recently she lived in Sri Lanka, but through the years she had lived in Bangladesh, Botswana, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. She sailed extensively in Pacific, Central American and Caribbean waters, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, visited the Himalayas, rafted the Zambezi, and canoed the Orange River in southern Africa.

She is survived by her husband of eight years, Alan Crone, of Kelseyville; parents Peter and Betty Van der Wende of Grass Valley; sister and brother-in-law Danny and Susie Rausch of El Dorado Hills; nephew Daniel; and nieces Katherine Rausch and Kristina Gee. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Proul, in 1993.
