Obituary: Lawanda Bettencourt

Lawanda Lea “Scotty” Bettencourt, 72, of Penn Valley died Monday, Jan. 14, at home.



In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.




Mrs. Bettencourt was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Laverne, Okla.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, music and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Haworth of Redwood City; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Ken VanRoekel of Penn Valley; grandchildren Liz and David Bettencourt, Larry and Don VanRoekel and Alida Bowles; great-grandchildren Christopher, Zachary, Jesse, Lindsy and Emily VanRoekel, Dan and Trevor Knynenburg and Miles Bowles; and friend, Ray Duncan of Grass Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Larry” Bettencourt in 1981.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Grass Valley.
