Obituary: George Galletta

Private graveside services for George V. Galletta of Grass Valley will be conducted at the Italian Cemetery in Colma.

Mr. Galletta died Friday, March 1, in Grass Valley. He was 88.

He was born Aug. 25, 1913, in San Francisco to Angelo and Maria Galletta.

He worked for the National Can Co. in San Leandro, and was a 50-year member of the International Association of Machinists.

Mr. Galletta enjoyed gardening and traveling abroad.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Galletta of Grass Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and James Howington of Hayward; son Ronald Galletta of Santa Rosa; step-daughter Stephanie Scofield of Newark; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Evelyn Francis Hale-Galletta, in May of 2001.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
