Obituary: Eloise Heilmann
Eloise Price Heilmann , age 89, passed on to be with our Lord Jesus Christ in her sleep the morning of September 1st. She had been in declining health the past several months.
Eloise was born May 4, 1921 in Paso Robles, CA. Her parents were May and Willis Price, originally from Springfield, MO. Eloise grew up in San Luis Obispo County graduating from San Luis High School at the age of 16 and San Luis Jr. College at 18.
She often spoke of the fun she had growing up during the Depression. ” We didn’t know we were poor; everyone was!” Nicknamed “Weezer”, Eloise was popular among her peers being both academically and athletically inclined. She played the piano and was part of a vocal trio that sang on the local radio station during the late 30’s. She liked to go to the beach and Avilia Beach was her favorite.
After Jr. College she worked at Camp Roberts in the secretarial pool. Near the beginning of WWII, she met Ed Heilmann, of Live Oak, CA. and they were married on March 20th, 1942. While Ed was overseas, they were blessed by the birth of their first child in February of 1944, Carol Ann.
After the war, the couple bought a ranch and moved to Live Oak where they raised frying chickens, prunes and walnuts. There too, came the births of their other three children, Dan, Barbara and Jeff. Eloise was active in the Women’s and Bridge Clubs, as well as leading her sons’ Scout Troops, and Barbara’s Blue Birds. Around 1957, Eloise discovered the game of golf which became a passion of hers the balance of her life. She was club champion and headed the women’s group at Nevada County Country Club.
In 1961, the couple re-located to Nevada City. Here they remained until Ed’s retirement in 1994. They moved back to the Central coast of CA. where they lived for a few years. Failing health necessitated the need to be nearer to their family at which time in 2001, they returned to Nevada County.
In July of 2009, Eloise suffered a couple of mini-strokes, which precluded her from living independently any longer. She moved to her daughter’s home in Rocklin and there she remained until her passing.
