Obituary: Earl Ayers

Earl W. “Shorty” Ayers, 88, of Hesperia died Monday, Dec. 3, in Hesperia.

In accordance with his wishes, there were no services. Burial was Monday at the New Elm Ridge Cemetery in Grass Valley.



Mr. Ayers was born on Dec. 10, 1912, in Blacklick, Ohio. He served in World War II. He married Madge Vanderpool on Nov. 22, 1959, in Reno.




He owned Shorty’s Barbershop in Grass Valley for more than 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Grass Valley Elks. He was an artist who enjoyed playing his guitar.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Ruth Ayers of Hesperia; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Corey and Leticia Ayers of Hesperia; great-grandchildren Monica, Stephanie and Justin Ayers of Hesperia; and brother, Harold Ayers of Blacklick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Ayers, on Oct. 27, 1999.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
