Obituary: Dorothy Shideler

Services for Dorothy M. Shideler of Grass Valley will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Abundant Life Community Church, 10795 Alta St., in Grass Valley. Burial will be in Hemet.

Mrs. Shideler died Sunday, Jan. 27, in Grass Valley. She was 91.



She was born on Feb. 28, 1910, in Los Angeles to William and Irene (Fadley) Veeder. Mrs. Shideler graduated from Las Feliz High School. She owned and operated beauty shops in Hollywood and Hemet for more than 30 years.




Mrs. Shideler was a member of the Sierra Club’s Mother Lode Chapter of Nevada County and organized a senior hiking group and chaired it for 10 years. She was also a member of the Nevada County Camera Club. She enjoyed gardening, photography and hiking.

She is survived by her son, William Moore of Oregon; daughter, Lorene Grassick of Grass Valley; granddaughter, Sherry Buckley of Danville; grandson, Daniel Grassick of Albany, Ore.; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands in 1980 and 1990.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 12399 Nevada City Highway, Grass Valley 95945.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
