Obituary Betty Sutton

Memorial services for Betty Sutton of Penn Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. April 3 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1979 Ridge Road in Grass Valley. A reception will follow. Mrs. Sutton died Wednesday, March 20, in Grass Valley. She was 93.

She was born March 19, 1909, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ernest and Lillie MaGee. She married Paul Sutton in April 1930 in Los Angeles.



She worked for J.J. Newberry’s Co. for 25 years as a chief buyer. She lived in Penn Valley for 52 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, reading mystery novels and spending time with her family.




She is survived by her son, Richard Sutton of Penn Valley; sister, Hazel Hungerford of Bodfish; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; son, Patrick Sutton in 1995; two sisters and a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sierra Services for the Blind.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Grass Valley.
