Rose Mutascio

Rose Mutascio died Oct. 5 at Eskaton, Grass Valley. Rose was five days shy of her 101st birthday.

No public service will take place, but a private family service will be hosted at daughter Myra Nicol’s home in Penn Valley.

Rose was born Oct. 10, 1912, in New York City to Vincent and Francesca Cataldo. She was the first of her family to be born in the U.S. Her parents, brother Joseph and sisters Antonia and Mary were all born in Alcamo, Sicily. Her younger brother, Salvatore, was also born in New York.

Rose enjoyed playing the piano and singing songs she learned as a young woman. She was a delight to be around, and her light-hearted jests and beautiful smile are an integral part of the legacy she leaves behind. She had the gift of looking at life with grace and dignity in spite of the life challenges that came her way. She was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her three children, Myra, Joseph and Vincent, all of whom live in Penn Valley.

In addition to her children, Rose is survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in her name to Hospice of the Foothills, Grass Valley.
