Obituary of William Joseph “Bill” Sharp

William Joseph “Bill” Sharp, 73, of Grass Valley passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at his home after a lengthy battle with lung disease. Bill was born Sept. 29, 1942 in Springfield, MO to John Ezra and Minta Faye Sharp. He married the love of his life, Connie Lou Scearce, on Sept. 25, 1960. They had three children: William Scott, Kimberly Kay and William Christopher. They lived in Kansas City, MO, and were transferred with Nordson Corp. to Littleton, CO, then on to Pleasanton, CA and finally resided in Grass Valley. Bill worked as a salesman for Stair Glide Corp, then as a regional sales manager for Nordson Corp. for 27 years, earning many awards and recognitions. Bill had a heart for adventure and was certified in scuba diving and sky diving. One of his prize possessions was his 2003 Harley Davidson “100th Anniversary” Dyna Low-Rider motorcycle. After retiring, he volunteered at the Ophir Hill Fire Department for over 7 years. He loved being a firefighter, rarely missed a call, and loved the adventure of being on Strike Teams. In 2000, he was awarded “Firefighter of the Year.” Along with his volunteer work at the fire department, Bill served at Twin Cities Church. He served on the Offering Team and on the Grow Leadership Team. With his spiritual gift of “Encourager,” Bill also was a Consultant for Men and did Small Group Coaching. Most importantly, he gave his time, patience, kindness, understanding and encouragement when he spent time as Ministry Leader of the Celebrate Recovery Group. Bill had a passion for those who were hurting. Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie. His daughter, Kimberly Sharp Nessinger (Rich) of Rescue, CA. Daughter-in-law, April Bernhardt (Chad) of Encinitas, CA. Grandsons, Zachary Nessinger (Katie) of Camino, CA and Joey Nessinger of Rescue, CA. Greatgrandson, Brody Christopher Nessinger of Camino, CA. Granddaughter, Eleanor Grace Bernhardt of Encinitas, CA. A sister, Karman Sharp White (John) of Kansas City. Along with nephews, nieces and cousins. Predeceasing Bill were his infant son, William Scott Sharp and his son William Christopher Sharp, who was a partner in his “heart for adventure”; also his father and mother, John and Faye Sharp; his brother John Roger Sharp; his father-in-law James H. Scearce; and is brother-in-law James Michael Scearce.

A private family service will be held. Contributions to Twin Cities Church, 11726 Rough & Ready Hwy., Grass Valley, CA 95945 will be accepted in his memory.
