Obituary of William “Bill” Barr

William “Bill” Barr of Livermore, California, passed away July 15, 2015. He was 87.

Bill enjoyed a happy childhood in Reading, Pennsylvania with his parents, Ben and Esther Barr, and his sister Betty, remaining in touch with most of his schoolmates all his life. He moved to California in 1950 where he met Lois, and settled down in San Leandro as he pursued a career with PG&E, developing some of the earliest computer programs in the nation and eventually becoming Vice President of Steam Generation. After retirement, Bill and Lois moved to Nevada City where he enjoyed boating, RVing and continued his lifelong love of bicycle riding. Bill was a wonderful father and grandfather, and strove to bring fun and happiness into the lives of all his family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lois Barr; father to Laura (Jean O’Leary) Barr of Boston, Douglas (Puao Tao) Barr of San Lorenzo, and Lisa (Clay) Jackson; grandfather, to Devin and Madison O’Leary, Jason, Jeremy, and Jaydah Howlett, and Zachary, Lucas, and Jake Mitchum.

Friends and relatives are invited to a celebration of Bill’s life at 4 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the home of his daughter Lisa, 1355 College Ave, Livermore, California.
