Obituary of Walter Schmidt

Walter Schmidt died on Nov. 1, 2015 in Grass Valley. He was 85.

Wally was born on Nov. 25, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois. After graduating from high school, he worked as a painter and married Nancy Boodel.

In 1961, he partnered with brother-in-law Don Boodel Jr. and father-in-law Don Boodel Sr. in three McDonald’s restaurants in the Cleveland area. Later he owned his own McDonald’s in Greenville, Ohio, before retiring to Las Vegas, Nevada.

There he met the love of his life Mary McCoy. Wally was a lifetime pool player culminating in 2003 when he won the National 8-Ball Championship in the Super Seniors Division in Las Vegas. Wally had a fantastic sense of humor and, unfortunately, was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his son Michael (Sharon) of Nevada City; grandchildren, Alison of Nevada City, and Ann, Jennifer, and David of Ohio, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wife Mary in 2012 and son Peter in 1995.
