Obituary of Ruth Erika Elisabet Palomba

Ruth Erika Elisabet Palomba, 82, passed away on Oct. 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born on March 24, 1934 in Grangesberg, Sweden, to Walter and Elsa Ramkvist. She had two brothers, Hans and Jan who she was very close to her whole life. In 1957, Ruth traveled to the midwest to visit relatives where she met her future husband, Jim Palomba. They married in 1958 and moved to New Jersey where they started a family. In 1965, they moved to San Jose. Ruth worked in food services, catering, then later as a cook. Upon retiring, Ruth and Jim moved to Lake Wildwood. Ruth was vibrant, self-determined, wise, generous, strong and had a great sense of humor. She was a wonderful storyteller and had an amazing memory. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She adored her grandsons, Nik, Anthony and David. She loved to cook and travel, and socialize with her women's groups. She met many good friends through her Red Hat group, and she had a close Scandinavian community. Ruth was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the friendship and support of her bridge partners for over 20 years. She was one of the friendliest and most fiercely loyal people you could meet. Ruth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim; daughter Elisabeth (David) Palomba; sons Vince (Sheyla) Palomba and Erik (Tina) Palomba; grandsons, Niklas Palomba, Anthony Sclafani, and David Palomba Barsallo. She is also survived by her brother, Jan Walter Ramkvist of Vasteras, Sweden; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at the Lake Wildwood Community Center (Marina Room). Ruth had a way of lighting up a room and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
