Obituary of Robert (Bud) Farley
Robert (Bud) Farley, departed from this life April 1, 2015 at the Regency Park in Jefferson, Iowa. He lived to the age of 94.
He was born the fifth of eight children to Lewis and Olive (Kloss) Farley. Bud was born May 20, 1920 in Churdan, Iowa.
Robert attended and graduated from the Churdan High School in 1938. He said that he liked being called a WWII veteran. He was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Leavenworth Kansas on Jan. 21, 1942. He had training at Camp Callan, California and Orlando, Florida. He was deployed to Oran, (Algeria) North Africa on Jan. 27, 1943. He served in the Italian Theatre of Operations at Naples and Rome, and also took part in the drive north from Marseilles, France and into Belgium. He was in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Limburg, returning home on a Liberty Ship via Boston on Oct. 25, 1945. He was released from active duty on Oct. 29, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
Bud married Rosemary Halligan on Jan. 28, 1950. They left for Southern California on their honeymoon. In 1956, they moved their family to Grass Valley. He worked for the California Department of Forestry until his retirement in 1970. He owned and operated Mac’s Bar and Saw Shop in Grass Valley for almost 10 years before returning to Churdan in 1978.
Bud was a member of the First Baptist Church in Churdan.
He is survived by his seven children: Rick (Rian) Farley of Durham, California; Lori (Wayne) Smith of Twain Harte, California; Rod Farley of Sacramento, California; Debra Farley-Evans of Grass Valley, California; Marilyn (Larry) Loesch of Sacramento, California; Russell (Jane) Farley of Houston, Texas; and Ann Farley of Santa Clara, California. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Jesse (Valerie Myrick) Smith of Chico, California; Jared Smith of Twain Harte, California; Sean (Megan) Farley of Chico, California; Megan Farley of Chico, California; Sarah (Bradley) Barnes of Grass Valley, California; Robert Evans of Lemoore, California; Matt Farley of Sacramento, California; Kelley Farley of Davis, California; Laura (Vitor) Farley-Cardinale of Sacramento, California; and Jack Farley and Nick Farley of Houston, Texas. Also survived by five great-grandchildren: Hunter Barnes of Grass Valley, California; Nathan Farley of Chico, California; Maeve Smith of Chico, California; Maira Rose Farley-Cardinale of Sacramento, California; and Tristen Barnes of Grass Valley, California. Bud is also survived by a sister Mae Naffziger of Apple Valley, California and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Farley, and his siblings, William, Ramona and Chester Farley, Ruth Ramsey, Irene Ferguson and Rebecca Whitver. He was also preceded in death by Rosemary Farley, mother of his children.
