Obituary of Ray Sherman

Ray Sherman

Ray Sherman passed away on March 15, 2015, one day shy of his 87th birthday, after a gallant 20-plus-year battle with prostate cancer.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. April 3 at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.

Born in Southern California, he raised a large family while employed as an engineer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Upon retirement, he relocated his family to Grass Valley in 1970 where he worked in real estate while establishing the Gold Country Trails Council.

He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kiwanis and had served honorably in the Navy and Air Force.

Ray is survived by his sons, Michael and Daniel; stepsons, Rick, Chuck and Jerry Thompson; and his ex-wife Laura Pike. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christina “Tina” Browning in 1993.

Ray Sherman will be missed by family and friends and remembered for his sense of humor, love of hunting, fishing, horses and excellent mechanical abilities coupled with speedway racing.
