Obituary of Peggy O’Brien
Peggy O’Brien died June 12, 2017. She was 93. A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. July 22 at St. Patrick’s Church with internment following at St Patrick’s cemetery. A reception will follow at the church hall. Peggy was born on Corregidor P.I. at Fort Mills Army Base. She came to California in 1929 and resided in Millbrae. She attended school in Millbrae, San Mateo and San Francisco. She joined the Marine Corps and was voted Miss Marine 1944 and the recruiting poster girl for the Marine Corps. She was a proud Marine. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. Peggy moved to Grass Valley with her husband Bob in 1987. She loved her family, beautiful home and garden. She enjoyed walking her dogs in all weather and visiting with her neighbors along the way. Her garden is one of great beauty. Peggy was a member with Bob at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church which gave her great comfort. She was a truly a kind person, loving and thoughtful. She was always smiling, through the happy and the sad times.
She had positive words for all. She developed dementia and died peacefully with her daughter Genie and granddaughter Sarah at her side. She will greatly missed by her family and all those that were her friend.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Genie O’Brien; grandchildren, David Holm, Erin Gaudin, Robert C. O’Brien, Sarah Staton, Michael O’Brien, Stephen Hartmann and Malissa Vogel; great-grandchildren, Kali Lefebrve, Cory Williams, Levi Prinz, Jaiden McGinnis, Asa Greenhaw and Mycah O’Brien; great-great grandson Colton Lefebrve; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; Peggy’s and Genie’s shared doxie Coco, who so loved Peggy and the cookies and treats.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her son Patrick and daughter Bobbie; parents; Eugene MacLean & Mary McCain; brothers, Eugene MacLean, Earl McCain; & sister Patricia McKendry. In honor of Peggy donations may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, Sammie’s Friends & Mount St. Mary’s School, YLI of St. Patrick’s Church. Peggy O’Brien January 24, 1924- June 12, 2017.
