Obituary of Peggy Ann (Pendergraft) Giardina
Peggy Ann (Pendergraft) Giardina passed away peacefully Sept. 17, 2015 in Grass Valley, California. She was 80.
A celebration of life with family and friends will take place at a later date.
Peggy was born Oct. 14, 1934 in Westville, Oakland to Wesley and Lucy Pendergraft. She moved to Whittier, California in 1936 where she grew up and attended grammar and elementary schools. She graduated from high school in 1952. She married Nick Giardina in 1952. She raised three children in Whittier (Steve, Chris (Mark), and Larry). She completed her LVN and worked in physician offices in Whittier until relocating to Grass Valley in 1976. In Grass Valley she rejoined her parents who were residents there since 1951. She continued to work in local physician offices in the Grass Valley area. She was blessed to have spent the majority of her later years in her home with her husband Nick as she confronted her progressing Alzheimer’s condition.
Peggy’s most cherished activity was gardening. She spent countless hours in her flower gardens and caring for her ornamental trees. She was always quick to share a seedling with family and friends. She also loved to cook and enjoyed learning new recipes for her family. The past eight years have been spent with her great-grandchildren who were able to put a smile on her face. She was always there with a hug for them.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Nick Giardina; their children, Steven (Cindy) Giardina, Christopher Giardina, Lawrence (Meghon) Giardina; grandchildren, Jessica, Eric, Sara and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Chase, Dallas and Addison; sisters, Barbara and Judy; and numerous nieces, nephews and family members.
She is preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Lucy Pendergraft of Grass Valley; and brother Dale Pendergraft of Grass Valley.
We would like to thank the staff at Golden Empire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their specialized and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, http://www.alzfdn.org in Peggy’s name.
Arrangements are under direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
