Obituary of Lewis “Lew” Smith

Lewis “Lew” Smith died Monday July 24, 2017 in Grass Valley. He was 69.

Lew was born on August 22, 1947 to his loving parents Beldon and Betty Smith. He was a San Jose Police officer for 29 years before retiring in Grass Valley where he and his wife Tricia lived happily together.

Lew enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, helping others and talking with his friends and neighbors. If you were lucky enough to catch Lew with his garage door open, you knew you were in for a cold one and a friend to talk to.

Lew was a genuinely kind man, good husband and a great father.

Lew is survived by his wife Tricia; daughter Suzi; brother-in-law Don; niece Debbie (Dave) and their kids, Stephanie and Ryan; nephew Jeff (Susie) and their children, Ashley and Amanda.

He is preceded in death by his sister Barbara Lambert who he loved dearly.

At Lew’s request no service will be held at this time.

Memorial donations in memory of Lew can be made to Sammie’s friends, Nevada County Animal Shelter, 14647 McCourtney Rd. Grass Valley, CA 95949 or The American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
